Black History Month Art Contest

Open to girls between the ages of 6-14 on or before 2/28/2023.

Must reside in one of the 50 states and not in the U.S. territories. Deadline is 11:59PM Eastern Standard Time on 2/28/2023.


Topic:

The topic for 2023 is Black Women that have made an impact in the lives of others through their careers.

The art will be judged on creativity and interpretation.


Rules and Eligibility:

  • Entries must revolve around the theme of: Black Women that have made an impact in the lives of others through their careers.
  • Entries must be two-dimensional visual media. This can include mediums such as drawings, paintings, coloring or digital art. Video and performance art will not be accepted.
  • There are three age categories for the contest.
    • Ages 6-8 
    • Ages 9-11 
    • Ages 12-14 
  • One entry allowed per person.
  • By entering the contest, the artist gives permission for SumerStrawbree Publishing, LLC to use images of the work on its website, social media, and print media.
  • Entries will be judged on creativity, adherence to theme, and effort/quality.
  • Entries will be displayed on the Sumer Strawbree Facebook and Instagram pages.
  • There is no fee for participation.
  • Participants must complete the registration form for entries to be valid in the contest.

Prizes:

  • Winners will be contacted by March 3rd. Each age category will have a Master Artist and Runner-up winner.
  • Master Artist in each category win a 10 minute Zoom with Sumer Strawbree to be scheduled based on her availability and schedule, a signed copy of ‘Black, Brown & Beautiful’ and ‘My Career Glow Up’.
  • Runner-up in each category each win an autographed copy of ‘My Career Glow Up’.
